Eligible ERWH Models
SmartShift Rewards is available for all electric resistance tank water heater models. Tankless, propane or natural gas water heaters are not eligible. ERWH models with a built-in ability to connect to SmartShift are listed below. If your model doesn’t have built-in connectivity, SmartShift will provide a communication device for your water heater at no cost to you.

THERMOSTATIC MIXING VALVES (TMVs) AND SAFETY

A TMV is a device that mixes the hot water from your water heater with cold to deliver water to your tap at a safe temperature. Water heaters are commonly set at 120°F, which is considered safe for home use.

Though a TMV isn’t required for ERWHs, if you choose to heat your water to a higher temperature during off-peak hours to ensure you have enough hot water to last through peak demand periods, you may want to consider installing a TMV to ensure your family’s safety.

Is my ERWH communication enabled?
SmartShift Rewards connects to your water heater using Wi-Fi or cellular signals, depending on your water heater’s design and the availability of internet communications at your water heater’s site. Some older electric resistance water heaters may need to have a control device installed to participate. Regardless of your water heater’s capabilities, SmartShift Rewards can help you connect by providing a communications device at no cost to you.
